By plane

Naples Capodichino airport has direct flights with many Italian and European towns. In case from your airport no direct flight is available, it is possible to stop at Rome Fiumicino airport, and continue with a domestic flight to Naples, or to reach the town by train.
From the airport to the Observatory it’s possible to use the following public transports.

  • TAXI – The distance between the airport and the OAC is about 7 kilometers. The cost of the ride, depending on the traffic, can’t be cheaper than 12 Euro. Taxis stop in front of arrivals or by calling RadioTaxi +39 081-8888.
  • AliBus – an ANM shuttle bus connects the airport to the Central Station, harbor and City center. It start every 20 minutes and the trip takes about 15 minutes. You can also buy the ticket on board.
  • Bus – People arriving in Central Station, should take the metro (Linea 1) until Dante station. Here bus C63 goes to the gate (“Porta Grande”) of the Capodimonte Museum. Take the first street on the right and after 100 m you will arrive at the Astronomical Observatory. Otherwise take bus R4 and get off at “Regresso” stop. From here, turn right and take a short walk in Via Capodimonte (about 300 meters uphill), then turn right and keep the left for about 100 meters till the Observatory entrance.

By train

In Naples there are four railway stations: Centrale, Garibaldi (respectively first floor and basement of the same station), Mergellina and Campi Flegrei. Centrale is the only terminal and is the station where most of the trains arrive; the other stations are all on the same line and are connected by metro line 2.

People who do not choose to take a taxi to reach the Observatory, should take the metro (Linea 1) until Dante station. Here bus C63 goes to the gate of the Capodimonte Museum. Take the first street on the right and after 100 m you arrive at the Astronomical Observatory. Otherwise take bus R4 and get off at “Regresso” stop. From here, turn right and take a short walk in Via Capodimonte (about 300 meters uphill), than turn right and keep the left for about 100 meters till the Observatory entrance.

By car

If you use a GPS, refer to the Observatory with its proper name or its address.

  • From North A1 (E45): exit the highway Milano-Napoli at kilometer 755 and take the “Tangenziale”, toward Capodichino/Domiziana.
  • From South A3 (E45): after the toll-booths of South Naples, keep the left and continue in direction of Rome for 4 kilometers until the exit for the “Tangenziale”, toward Capodichino/Domiziana.
  • From Tangenziale (the ring road) of Naples: Take the exit #5 Capodimonte and drive until the tree-lined roundabout (“Tondo di Capodimonte”), keep the left and get back in the same road in the opposite sense. Continue until the traffic light, then turn right. After about 300 meters, still turn right on a narrow street, and at the crossroad keep the left for about 100 meters till the Observatory entrance.note – inside you will find a large car parking.
